Mateo was diagnosed with HLHS with heterotaxy and polysplenia. His family never lost hope and prayed continuously for his recovery.
Reminding the world that our babies matter and that they will never be forgotten.

This is a crewneck sweatshirt with all of your babies names on it, including the ones who died too soon. This option has Mama on the neckline and your babies names on the sleeve.

Our team includes a board of directors that jointly supervises the activities of our non-profit organization.
Jenelle Romo - President
Jenelle is Mateo’s Mom. Mateo was diagnosed with HLHS with heterotaxy and polysplenia. His family never lost hope and prayed continuously for his recovery. Mateo died on September 1, 2023. Through her grief, Jenelle made a sweatshirt with all of her children’s names on it and through this Mateo’s Mark was created. The feeling that overcame her to show the world that she is a Mama of 4 was unbelievable. Jenelle and her husband have 3 living children. She enjoys working on creative projects and time with her family.
Humberto Romo Jr - Vice President
Humberto is Mateo’s Dad. We never thought our son wouldn’t be coming home. We planned on a lot of hurdles with his recovery, but never imagined we would have to tell Mateo’s siblings their baby brother was dying. That is a conversation no parent should ever have to have. Mateo died on September 1, 2023. Humberto and his wife have 3 living children. He enjoys family time and watching his kids grow into caring people.
Laura Blough - Secretary
Laura is Mateo’s Aunt. She, herself, lost twin babies from a miscarriage in 2020. Laura is a nurse, turned stay at home mom to her and her husband Michael’s 3 living children. Their family loves watching movies and playing all types of games together. She loves coffee and working on creative projects.
Christy Lawrence - Treasurer
Christy Lawrence, and her husband Jacob, lost their son, Max at 26 weeks pregnant due to complications of Twin to Twin transfusion syndrome. Although their son, Charlie, survived due to medical intervention, Christy navigated a grief journey while balancing the joy and gratitude of having a surviving son from the pregnancy. Christy found that other loss moms helped her process her grief the most and now finds any way to empathize and support other grief families.
Leanne Banister - Board Member
Leanne Banister is an elementary teacher and close friend of Jenelle's. She became involved with Mateo's Mark because of her experience supporting Jenelle through infant loss. Leanne enjoys reading, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband and 2 daughters.
Jenna Mansfield - Board Member
Jenna Mansfield counts it as a privilege and honor to walk with those who suffer and offer them the same hope and comfort she has found in Christ. She came to be connected with Mateo's Mark through her friend, Laura. Mateo and Jenna's baby girl had the same heart surgeon at Riley. Jenna and her husband, Jordan, have 4 energetic and precious children. They love playing board games and fishing together.
Megan Slopsema - Board Member
Megan Slopsema and her husband, Jason, are parents to 4 living children and 4 children in Heaven. They lost their children due to miscarriages at various stages of development. They have been able to receive great comfort during their times of loss due to their strong belief that families are forever.
Robin Wood - Board Member
Robin Wood is a Care Pastor and volunteered to come and see the Romo Family during the crisis after Mateo's birth. He has been a Pastor for over 50 years and has gone through the grief of doing funerals for five families that have lost an infant within the first few months. Robin is also a Church Planter that has started over 140 churches in the United States, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Honduras, and recently has been a part of starting over 30 churches in prisons across the nation. He is deeply committed to Mateo's Mark.
Derek Fenwick - Board Member
Derek Fenwick and his wife Tracy have 4 children and have been married for over 30 years. Derek has worked with Robin Wood Ministries for the past 10 years on church planting and supporting nonprofit organizations with website design and marketing. He enjoys playing sports and encouraging people to Love God and Love People.
